The Lesotho Highlands Development Authority (LHDA) is a parastatal organization established by the Lesotho government to implement and manage the Lesotho Highlands Water Project (LHWP). Based in Maseru, LHDA oversees the construction, operation, and maintenance of dams, tunnels, and hydroelectric facilities that export water to South Africa while generating electricity for Lesotho. The authority plays a central role in one of Africa’s largest water transfer schemes, with Katse Dam and Mohale Dam among its flagship infrastructure assets. LHDA employs engineers, technicians, and administrative staff across its operations in the Lesotho Highlands, contributing significantly to the country’s revenue and rural development.
