The Lesotho Electricity Company (LEC) is the national electricity utility responsible for the generation, transmission, and distribution of electric power throughout the Kingdom of Lesotho. Established as a public entity, LEC operates the country’s primary energy infrastructure including the ‘Muela Hydropower Station and manages grid connections across both urban centers like Maseru and rural communities. The company is wholly owned by the Government of Lesotho through the Ministry of Natural Resources and plays a central role in the government’s efforts to expand electrification access and integrate renewable energy sources. LEC maintains responsibility for billing, customer service, and network maintenance for residential, commercial, and industrial consumers across the mountainous Southern African nation.
