You need a valid Lesotho Code 10 driver's license, which permits you to operate heavy vehicles up to 16,000 kg. A professional driving permit (PrDP) is often required, along with a clean driving record and medical fitness certificate. Some employers may also require a minimum of 2-3 years of driving experience.

What are the typical day-to-day responsibilities of a Code 10 driver?

Daily tasks include transporting goods or passengers safely, conducting pre-trip vehicle inspections, and maintaining logbooks for trips and fuel usage. You will also be responsible for basic vehicle maintenance checks and ensuring compliance with road traffic regulations. Timely delivery and professional communication with dispatchers or clients are essential.

How does the work culture for drivers in Lesotho typically operate?

Punctuality and reliability are highly valued in Lesotho's transport sector, with early morning starts being common. Employers expect respect for hierarchy and clear communication with supervisors. Dress codes are usually practical, and drivers often work independently with minimal supervision once routes are assigned.

What career progression opportunities exist for Code 10 drivers in Lesotho?

With experience, you can advance to Code 14 (heavy duty) driving or move into supervisory roles such as fleet coordinator or transport manager. Some drivers transition into logistics planning or start their own transport businesses. Additional certifications in first aid or defensive driving can improve promotion prospects.
